Since Cooper was born I always called him Bug, he is my little Bug =) After Kole was born Trevor started calling him Worm cuz he is a little wiggler and NEVER holds still! So this is obvioulsy a post about my Bug and Worm..
From day one Cooper has loved his brother, he is so helpful.. he feeds him, holds him, and baths with him. They are best friends! Kole might not know it yet but he has the best big brother anyone could ask for!
Coop snugglin Kole
Cooper is telling Kole what all the animals are on his shirt, trying to teach him early =)My handsome Bug!
Kole got sick one day.. typical runny nose, cough, all that.. well later that night his fever jumped to 101.. he was only 20 days old! I called the hospital and they said with a fever like that he needs to be seen right now (this was at 11 at night) So we packed up and went to the hospital, they tested him for RSV and it came back positive. Where he was only 20 days old he didnt have his own immune system yet so his body couldnt fight off infection on its own, that being said they wanted to run more tests just to be COMPLETELY sure it was only RSV and no other infections.. so they gave him an IV in his arm, but his tiny little veins were to small they couldnt hit them in the right spot so they put the IV in his head..
I told the doctor um.. no i dont think so, but he assured me that in kids this small it is easiest to get a vein in their head.. My heart was breaking for my baby. Then they needed a urine sample so they did a catheter on him.. he actually slept through it so it didnt make me too sad to watch that one. Then the worst part.. they needed fluid from his spine to test for infections. Spinal tap.. pretty much like an epidural! One doctor had to fold him in half like a taco while the other doctor tried to get the needle in his tiny spine.. well it was so small they couldn't hit the right spot. They tried 6 times and were not successful so we said no more, he had been through enough and I didnt think my heart could break anymore. Then they did a few chest x rays and then told us that he needed to be hospitalized for 2 days.
We were sent to inpatient and he was hooked up to Oxygen and monitored every hour throughout the night. They started him on antibiotics and we hoped to see improvement. His oxygen levels were prefect the whole next day so we waited for the doctor to come that night to give us the ok to go home. In the mean time our brother in laws Chandler and Kevin came in and gave Kole a blessing. Shortly after we got to go home! I took Kole in the next day to see Dr. Mckenna for a follow up and Kole was starting to develop Pneumonia.. i didnt think it could get any worse! His oxygen levels were also dropping so we were sent home with a nebulizer to do breathing treatments on him and antibiotics for the Pneumonia. He went back to the doctor for the next 3 days until he was finally healthy again!
He didnt mind doing his breathing treatments, which is good we had to do them every four hours or as needed. Now at 6 weeks he is totally healthy and we are so glad he is ok!
Here are a few pics to catch up from the past weeks...
I love my Bug and Worm =)
Oh sweetie! I am so sorry :( Poor baby Kole! I am so glad to hear that he is doing better. It is never fun when your babies are sick & to have to go through all that. All I can say is that he sure is a strong little man & has wonderful parents & a great big brother! If you ever need anything or another mom to talk too, dont hesitate to ask! We should get together sometime. Cooper sure is a great big brother. Doesnt it just make your heart melt to see the bond between them? Kaysha is the same way with Mase, they both absolutely adore each other! You have beautiful children hun! And I love the guitar pjs, Mase has the same pair :D
ReplyDeleteThis post about Kole scared the heck out of me!! I'm so sorry he had to go through all of this!
ReplyDeleteCooper looks like a great big bro!!!
Love ya lots!!
Megan, I know exactly how it feels to watch them poke and broad your poor baby. :( Ryder had a case of croup in late november that developed into full blown pneumonia as well. (Croup is upper airway, pneumonia is lungs, so his whole airway was infected and inflammed and he couldn't breath) So my poor little guy was life-flighted to Primary Childrens and spent 4 days in the Pediatric Intensive care unit then one day in a regular Pediatric room. They had done nebulizers that were ineffective and he hated them. Then put him on C-PAP and sedated him (cpap is forced, medicated oxygen) which didn't have lasting help, had to receive treatment every two hours, and finally they tried a helium oxygen mix that did the trick. After only 6 hours, his airway was open and he was off oxygen all together! It was sooo hard to see him fighting that hard just to breath! I've never been through anything that terrible in my life. I'm grateful that Ryder recovered and that Kole recovered too! We are definitely blessed.
